Did I sent that email? Nope, let me do that now.

Oh, but wait, first I should change the baby’s diaper!

You sit here and play with your doll while mommy prints out some shipping labels.

But omg, she looks so cute. Let me snap some quick photos of her!

Where has the time gone? Let me quickly eat something for lunch.

Ahh, finally she is taking a nap..time to get some stuff done.

If the dog barks and wakes her up, I’ll be pissed!!

This is an example of how my mind goes throughout the day while working from home. Being an entrepreneur is amazing but it requires a lot of discipline. I am an entrepreneur and a mom – a Mompreneur! I am the owner of Melanie Marie Accessories and AnnDrew Marie Accessories and the mama to AnnDrew 😉

When some people find out that I work at home, they feel I am living the good life. They feel like I have nothing to complain about and that I get to stay in bed all day. Now don’t get me wrong, working from home is great and the flexibility is awesome, but I work just as hard as someone going into an office everyday.  However, there can be a bit more distractions while working from home. You have to stay focused on work and not the load of laundry that needs to be done, the dishes in the sink that need to be washed or the plush bed that is staring you in the face and calling your name lol.  The distractions can be tough for me at times, because I always try and get it all done but I always have to remind myself to stay on target.

All entrepreneurs wear numerous hats while they are building their brand and mompreneurs add a few more on top of that. On top of building their empire, mompreneurs need to be chefs to prepare meals for the family, nurses to tend to any boo-boos, referees to break up any sibling rivalries, hairstylist when doing your daughters hair, stylist when picking out the kids clothing, and so many more hats. We have to learn to balance the switching of one job to the next.  It truly defines our daily schedule.  Everyday is different for me. I always make a to-do list and write everything down in my calendar so I can stay organized and on top of everything. Some days I can be home all day in my pajamas, other days I am running errands, and some days I am back and forth on the NJ turnpike due to meetings. No two days are the same for me and I love the spontaneity.

At any point of the day I can be playing peek-a-boo with the baby and the next minute hopping on a conference call. It is a constant balancing act.

I find that I am most productive when the baby is sleeping or playing with her dad. He is a tremendous help because he knows how demanding it is to be a stay at home mom in addition to running a business. I take advantage of all of the quiet time free of distractions I get.  It is how I stay on top of my business and make life work. The night time is my most productive time of day. I am able to catch up on all emails, process new orders, prepare for the next days shipments and work on my blog.

There is a reason the word mom comes first in mompreneur.  It is our first priority, how we begin and end our days and we slip in being an entrepreneur in between. I utilize a good mix of mom and business with three things: discipline, routine and priorities.  Those three things help to make sure everything runs smooth like a well oiled machine. I love the flexibility of being able to run my business from wherever I am.  I am the literal meaning of working 24/7, however I do make sure that I devote time for just family.

Being a mompreneur can have some challenging days but majority are rewarding, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. I am my own boss and the mom to an awesome baby! Can’t get any better than that.
