I did it!!! A few months ago I was driving (I do my best brainstorming while driving and washing dishes) and came up with an idea for an event that I wanted to have – an event for MOMPRENEURS !! Since I had my daughter, I’ve gotten a lot of questions asking how do I juggle being a mom and owning a business. So many women feel like they have to choose between a career and family. I wanted this panel of women to show it doesn’t have to be “either or” it can be “and”. The event was sponsored by Black Enterprise Magazine, Jane Carter Solutions and Lit BKLYN. The panel consisted of amazing women, all of them motivate and inspire me!

We had over 100 guests ane some flew in from LA, Detroit, Atlanta and more. I thought that was the coolest thing. I felt so humbled that people felt this event was worth traveling across country for. Our guest that flew in from Detroit has a blog called CHICmom organization. She wrote a post with some great notes from the event. Click here to be directed to her blog.

Quotes from the panelists:

“When you truly know who you are, nothing or no one can deter you from what you want” @triciasmithbrown

“My measure of success is not based off of my bank account, it’s based off of where I’m at.” – @marjorietmatute

“As long as you keep stepping forward that’s success.” @miriammilord

“Success is gratitude, having a goal and a purpose and empowering other people. At the end of the day, it’s not about money, who you know, or what you have. It’s about divine order & patience.” – @mashondatifrere

“Success is setting the goal & going to sleep satisfied.” – @msecls

“Networking is about connecting. Connect at a real level. Be mindful of how you come across. Be kind.”
– @misahylton

Here are a few gems guests took from the panel:

Loving my job doesn’t make me any less of a mom.

It’s helpful and healthy for my children to see me working.

Just because my kids are in child care doesn’t mean anyone else is raising them.

When it comes to spending time with my kids, I value quality as much as quantity.

It’s really OK if I can’t make every single soccer game/performance/PTA meeting.

I love my children as much as any other mom.

I’m no better and no worse than any other type of mom.

Every family is different, and we’re choosing to do what’s best for ours.

I help to provide for and nurture my family in a wide variety of ways.

I can love my children and love my job.

Today I will be fully present wherever I am, at work or at home.

Just because I work doesn’t mean it isn’t hard for me to be away from my kids.

But I’m not a bad mom if I don’t miss them every moment of every workday.

Whether I work out of necessity, fulfillment, or both, I don’t have to explain or defend my financial situation to anyone.

Having young kids doesn’t make me any less qualified for that raise/promotion/assignment.

I’m probably the only one who notices that spit-up on my jacket collar, that purple marker on my scrubs, that yogurt in my hair, or those bags under my eyes.

Guilt is something all moms feel, whether they work outside the home or not.

I am there for my kids when they need me (and I won’t let anyone convince me otherwise).

Being a working mom doesn’t mean my family isn’t my first priority.

In reality, all moms are working moms, and all moms are deserving of respect and support.
