This post is all about how to get out of your head.

People get stuck in their heads all the time – to some more than others. It can be nice to wonder what will happen next in life, the issue is that a lot of thoughts may not be so positive. When we are in the middle of mind-wandering (stuck in our head), our thoughts can drift off into thinking about what bills are due next, an argument that you may have had with a friend or love, an issue at work, etc. What happens in our heads and the quality of our thoughts, affects our lives in so many ways – our confidence, moods, relationship, self- love, compassion and so much more!

Mastering how to get out of your head is a major key! In order to do so, we have to use certain tools for relief in order to push any negative thoughts out of our head.

I rounded up 5 attainable ways to do this:

TAKE ACTION TO GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD:

Take your mind off of the negative thoughts by going for a walk, meeting a friend for lunch or dinner, cleaning up, playing some music and dancing!

CONNECT WITH THE PRESENT MOMENT BY ENGAGING IN YOUR SENSES:

  • Be present in the now! Stop any worry driven thoughts by:
  • Listening to any sounds you hear
  • Look around and describe what you see
  • Close your eyes and take deep breaths
  • Notice how your feet feel on the ground
  • Eat something and focus on the taste

FOCUS ON WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL:

We cannot control everything but we can control how we react to circumstances. We cannot control what other people do or their actions. However, you can manage where you live, who is apart of your life, what you eat, how much you sleep, how long you exercise and what you spend time on. It helps to know that you have control over certain things and letting go of everything else is crucial.

TALK TO SOMEONE:

Talking to a friend and actually saying things out loud can help you with the mind wandering. Speak to a trusted friend, a therapist, family member or a trusted colleague. If you keep things bottled up, there is no way to get them out and you will eventually explode.

WRITE THINGS DOWN:

I always say how I love to write everything down. It helps me get things out of my head and on to paper. It also helps to relieve stress when you get things out of your head and it allows you to think clearly. Writing your thoughts down can help you process everything better, helps you to be more calm and relaxed and makes your day go smoothly.
