I just got back from Mexico City and I probably gained 5 pounds over the weekend. Who knew Mexico City was foodie heaven?!

I normally wouldn’t have traveled to Mexico City, but I partnered with the company Dinner in the Sky to experience their Mexico City dinner. Dinner in the Sky is essentially just as it’s name states – DINNER IN THE SKY! Over the oast years, Dinner in the Sky has criss-crossed the skies of 60 countries. Europe, Australia, Japan, India, Dubai, South Africa, Brazil, US, Mexico, Canada and China. All happening in a totally safe way. First you sit in your seat, next they strap you in nice and tight and then a crane lifts the dinner table 150 feet in the air. Once you are in the air, you eat and drink and enjoy yourself. We chose the sunset dinner, so you get to see the sun set behind you and it’s so pretty. The staff was great and very informative. They prepare each dish then explain to you what each one is. You get wine and champagne on top of about 4 meals and dessert. Dinner in the Sky is international, so you can do it in many different countries.

I knew that we were going to do Dinner in the Sky, but I wanted to plan for the rest of the time there. I didn’t know much about Mexico City, so I began to research. After browsing a bunch of websites and blogs, I learned that Mexico City has great food so we decided to make it a food tour and visit a bunch of restaurants and bars.

Uber’s are VERY cheap there. Mostly everything is, since our dollar is worth more than the peso. Uber prices around the city averaged $7 a ride. So it was UBER EVERYWHERE for us lol. Depending on where you stay, you can walk to a lot of places.

We stayed at Mansion Papilio and I loved it. It is an old mansion turned into a bed and breakfast. If you prefer luxury and to have a lobby full of staff, then this place isn’t for you. If you prefer a nice relaxing garden vibe, then this is it. There is a manager and a maid on staff and they are very nice and helpful. I loved the decor in the house and my favorite part of the mansion was getting to eat breakfast in the garden.

Places in walking distance of Mansion Papillio: Frida Kahlo Museum, Popular Art Museum, local markets full of food and shops and nice nightlife (bars).

Tip: There are many parts of Mexico City. If you plan on visiting, I recommend looking up how far your desired hotel is to the attractions you want to visit. We happened to get lucky with choosing our spot.

Here is our itinerary:

Saturday:
We arrived late, so we just settled in to our room and then walked to a restaurant/bar and got some food and drinks.

Sunday:
We woke up early and had a traditional Mexican breakfast at our hotel.

Caught an Uber to Taqueria Orinoco in Roma Norte. Maaaaannnnn, when I tell you these tacos are the best…as the young kids say “no cap”. Lol we had to double back to this place. The tacos are so good, they had a line out the door. Trust me when I say you need to go here. They don’t open until 1pm, so we stopped by some local street vendors across the street and tried tacos from each taco truck – also delicious!

After we stuffed ourselves full of tacos we headed back to the room to get ready for Dinner in the Sky.

I loved every second of the dinner. A lot of people asked was I scared and I actually wasn’t. If you’re afraid of heights, you may be jittery up there lol. However, when you arrive to the site, you have to wait in a lounge first and they offer you drinks and snacks while you wait for your dinner to start. A drink will help you relax lol.

Tip: if you plan to do Dinner in the Sky in Mexico and want to do the sunset dinner, I recommend you secure a ride home. Uber’s are more so in the city area, and Dinner in the Sky is about 1 hour and 15 minutes outside of the city. It was hard for us to get a ride but luckily one of the couples from the dinner gave us a ride home. It was my first semi hitchhiking experience lol. They said it is dangerous outside of the city for tourists, so make sure you are covered. A few people that were at our dinner rented cars and drove.

Monday:
This day was the real food and drink tour. We started the day off with breakfast in the garden and then we literally went from restaurant to restaurant. Below is the list of places we went to in the order we visited them. I tried to make it so the places we went to next we’re close to the previous destination, so we weren’t going out of our way and doing circles through the city. If you plan your stops via how close they are to each other, you’ll save money on transportation.

Frida Kahlo Museum

Mercado De San Juan – stopped in this market to try their tacos. They also sell fruit, flowers and other items.

Taqueria Orinoco (in Roma Norte) – had to double back for more tacos lol tacos are about $1/2 each.

Contramar (in Roma Norte) – pictures of what we got are below. This place is delicious it more pricey than the other places we went to. You just try this place.

Plaza Garibaldi – I wanted to come here to see the live Mariachi bands. FYI, if you sit to eat in this plaza, they will continue to come up to you and ask you if you want to pay 100 pesos to hear them sing lol. We sat at the outside bar here and got drinks. The Tequila and Mezcal Museum is also in this plaza.

Licoreria Limantour – this bar is nice and they have GREAT drinks.

We ended the night back at our hotel area watching a performance and eating churros.
